Research Analyst: South Asia Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Sector -- Closing 13th April, 2006 The World Bank Office Dhaka seeks applications from qualified, bright, economists for two positions of Research Analyst. These positions are locally recruited for a period of up to two years.
Responsibilities include: · Research, develop and maintain a wide variety of economic and poverty data dealing with macroeconomic developments, public expenditure, taxation, public administration, trade and poverty including lending, research and/or policy related tasks. - Assist in the preparation of sector strategy or research reports and prepare briefing notes.
- Assist team members working on various projects and activities, including budget support loans and technical assistance.
Selection criteria: - Masters in Economics; 2 years relevant experience preferred;
- Ability to interpret and present economic and statistical data;
- Experience in computer software packages; fully proficient in Microsoft Office; using websites to produce documents and to import or convert files from one software application to another; familiarity with econometric techniques and packages an advantage;
- Fluency in written and verbal English;
- Ability to perform in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment; willingness to seek and accept guidance from more experienced and senior staff;
- Ability to work flexibly on a range of assignments and adjust to and prioritize a variety of complex evolving tasks; and to produce quality work under pressure;

Program Assistant -- Closing date 24th April, 2006 Background: The World Bank Dhaka Office is seeking applications from qualified candidates for the position of a Program Assistant. The position requires providing comprehensive administrative support, primarily for the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management (PREM) Team in the Dhaka Office. The PREM unit’s work program in Bangladesh includes extensive dialogue with the Government and others on economic management, governance, and poverty. The unit provides analysis and advice. It prepares both technical assistance and loans to the Government of Bangladesh. It works in partnership with other Sectors in the World Bank and with other donors, both multilateral and bilateral. Duties & Responsibilities:
o Planning and managing the unit’s support services and related resources to achieve the work program. Organizing and coordinating workflow including resolving resource and work priority conflicts. Ensuring timely delivery and quality of outputs, in accordance with relevant Bank Group policies. Providing the full range of office support to the unit manager. o Use of word processing or desktop publishing skills to produce complex texts, reports, figures, graphs etc and their proper distribution. o Drafting routine correspondence and proofreading materials using proper grammar, punctuation and style. Incorporating agreed comments into documents, making full use of shared drives and software capabilities. o Arranging meetings both within the World Bank and with outside counterparts, especially Government ministries. Coordinating schedules taking priorities into account, monitoring changes and communicating the information to appropriate staff, inside and outside the immediate work unit, including officials outside the Bank Group. Assisting in preparation and logistical planning for various events e.g. conferences, workshops etc. o In conjunction with and under guidance from staff monitor specific activities (e.g. task budget, etc.) for the team. o Maintaining current distribution lists, phones, addresses lists of the relevant for the team. Maintaining up-to-date work units files (both paper and electronically). General Qualifications & Experience: o Higher Secondary Certificate/ ‘A’ Level required; BA or equivalent degree from a recognized university highly preferred. o 5-7 years of responsible, relevant office support experience. o Outstanding English language skill (written and spoken). o Excellent knowledge of essential elements of MS Office and email. Professional Skills & Competencies: o Self confident and able to assume responsibility and work in a team environment. Willingness to extend self to contribute to team's objectives. Outstanding interpersonal skills. Ability to deal with people at all levels on phone and in person. o Demonstrated capacity in organizing, prioritizing, scheduling, planning and coordinating work and other activities; ability to work under pressure. Demonstrated ability to respond to diverse and multiple queries and situations. o Ability to work in a complex organization, such as the World Bank, with the detailed procedures necessary for a high degree of both internal and external accountability. o Ability to retrieve reference materials from various sources (e.g. file stations, Library, Internet). Ability to maintain filing systems and record data/information. o Willingness to learn and seek assistance from senior colleagues. o Willingness to work overtime with a short notice as well as being flexible with working hours, if necessary.
