Bangladesh: Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project

WASHINGTON, July 31, 2008 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:

 

IDA Credit: US$130.7 Million

TERMS: Maturity= 40 years; Grace= 10 years

Project Description: The Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project for Bangladesh aims to improve the quality of secondary education, systematically monitor learning outcomes, and increase access and equity in 121 upazilas, or sub-districts. This project will: (a) improve education quality and monitor learning levels in project areas; (b) improve equity and access in project areas through provision of stipends to poor girls and boys; (c) strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Education (MoE) both at central and local levels; and (d) establish an effective monitoring and evaluation system.
